Volunteer Opportunity

Like children? Think you would enjoy teaching a child how to read? Read on...

Are you looking for opportunities to connect your students with children and schools in the community?

The Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services at JMU is home to the Reading Road Show-Gus Bus program and the Shenandoah Valley Migrant Education program. They are both currently trying to recruit volunteers for a tutoring program for elementary aged students. Volunteers would go to the child’s home for 1 – 2 hours per week to work with the child. They would need their own transportation to the child’s home. This is a commitment for the entire school year, lasting until May 2014. Volunteers will offer 1-2 hours per week and will have a flexible schedule.

Functional Fitness Opportunity

Are you looking for an exercise leadership opportunity? Ms. Caroline Grassi, the owner of Bodies By Design in Charlottesville, contacted me about the possibility of having a student in her facility.

Her programming focuses on functional fitness and she takes clients by referral only. The opportunity to observe a Physical Therpist exists, too.

She has plenty of hours of operation!

Any interested student must be animal friendly. She has dogs and parrots on site.
