Beyond Strength Performance Internship - Sterling, VA

This facility wants you! An Exercise Science student was at this facility during Summer 2017!

Beyond Strength Performance Internship

Beyond Strength Performance
NOVA Internship
Course Description

The Beyond Strength Performance NOVA, LLC (BSP NOVA) fitness coaching internship is a twelve to sixteen-week experiential learning program directed by Todd Bumgardner, MS, CSCS, and Chris Merritt, BS Kinesiology. The program is designed to help exercise science and kinesiology students, interested in pursuing a career as a strength coach or personal trainer, develop the interpersonal, coaching, and program writing skills that accelerate their professional, as well as personal, development.

The program is divided into four modules: coaching, programming, professional expansion, and additional coaching hours. Each module contains a weekly in-service that teaches interns new, immediately applicable skills. (In-service descriptions and schedule included in the attached internship curriculum.) In-service instruction is combined with 15-25 weekly experiential hours during which interns get to observe the BSP NOVA staff, and get direct coaching experience with BSP NOVA clients.

Graduate and Professional School Fair, Sept 26

A Graduate and Professional School Fair will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 3-6 pm in Madison Hall (near the Student Success Center).   More than 100 graduate programs have already registered to participate including 26 healthcare and  medical schools, 17 law schools, 7 public policy or administration, 5 international programs, and a wide range of other programs representing virtually every discipline and interest area. Representatives of institutions from across the country will be at JMU, hoping to discuss their programs with JMU students.  This is an opportunity that should not be missed.  The event is free.  No prior registration is required.  Information about the fair, including what students can expect and who will be attending is available athttp://www.jmu.edu/gradfairs
This event is not for Seniors only!  This is a great opportunity for students at all levels to learn more about potential career pathways and what will be needed to be admitted to particular types of programs.  This event is co-sponsored by the JMU Graduate School and the Office of Career and Academic Planning.  It is a collaborative effort of JMU, Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University and Mary Baldwin College.

Opportunity to attend SEACSM Meeting in February

The Kinesiology faculty are working on gathering a group of undergraduate students who want to travel to Chattanooga, TN, on Feb 15-17, 2018, for the Southeast regional chapter meeting of the ACSM. Ideally, those students who are selected to attend will have aspirations of being an Exercise Science practitioner, or has intentions of pursuing a graduate program in Exercise Physiology or related program. There will be some expense incurred by each person, though we are aiming to keep it as low as possible. We will be traveling together in university vans and hotel rooms will be covered. Exact expense is a little uncertain at this point, but conference registration and meals will likely be your financial responsibility. I will be heading up the student Quiz Bowl team. Attending this meeting is a great opportunity to meet authors of research you have read, meet other like-minded young professionals, and meet Ex Phys graduate program representatives. If you are interested in applying to attend (also indicate if you're interested in being considered for the Quiz Team), complete this google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/173TZaSy89NBaoCfpiuGvmhnCn9J2xjrna241rVXpv5M/edit?ts=59c01dcf (Links to an external site.)

Hilton Head Health Institute Internship, Hilton Head, South Carolina

Hello All,
I would like to introduce myself as the administrator for the Hilton Head Health Program Internship.  Our internship program is managed by David Chesworth, one of our Fitness Coaches and Wellness Programmer.  However, I will be the main point of contact for any students wishing to apply for an internship here at Hilton Head Health.  I know that classes are just beginning, but it’s never too early to start thinking about internships!  We are currently accepting applications for our Spring (January – April/May) Internships through September 30th.  Please see the attached Application Packet that details our internship program. (Contact Jana for the application!)  If you have additional questions, please feel free to call or email me.
If you are not aware of who we are and what we do, I would encourage you to visit our website, www.hhhealth.com to see what we are really about.  In brief, we are a world renowned, award winning health spa resort.  We focus on helping individuals create a personalized health and wellness experience and provide an environment for rapid personal growth - developing new healthy habits, jumpstarting weight loss or managing stress are some of the many ways guests choose to begin living a more fulfilling life, healthy lifestyle.
Hilton Head Health has the best singular opportunity to provide exceptional learning and training experiences for Health Management professionals.  Because their chosen field is broad and because health is not solely linked to one lifestyle aspect, the curriculum will expose the intern to all of H3 Program sectors of comprehensive wellness. The intern can expect guidance and support from a highly trained professional staff with expertise in their related health promotion area.
Our intention is to extend and expand the intern’s education.  While providing opportunities for them to reinforce their strengths, interns will also address and strengthen weaker areas of interest or talent.  Ideally, this will allow the intern to participate in an extensive learning opportunity.

Thank you,

Signature Option3
