Fitness Programming - City of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation

City of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic student (practicum or internship) to assist with fitness programming. Here is the information I received:

Here at the Cecil F. Gilkerson Community Activities Center, we offer several avenues of fitness training for youth and adults. From early morning to late evening bootcamp and kettlebell classes, teen fitness activites, and all-day personal training, we try to offer all levels of fitness to every member.

Fitness classes are based upon the foundations of intervals training--combining bodyweight movements with equipment such as kettlebells, medicine balls, and jump ropes. A good amount of planning goes into each class and instructors are responsible for creating interval-based workouts capable of being scaled to all athletic abilities. Classes are held 6 times throughout the week.

Personal Training is also available upon request. Those working with clients are required to work with certified trainers to perform fitness assessments and help develop personalized workout plans for clients. Detailed planning and research is required to ensure the safest training methods for each individual.

Teen activites are offered to those between the ages of 12-15 throughout the day. Creativity and safe exercise methods for young teenagers are the focus of small group activities. Must be able to have fun.
