I wanted to reach out to you on behalf of Horizons Edge Sports Campus. As many of you know the Edge is steadily growing and evolving within the sports/recreation world. COVID-19 has change how we are able to operate in several ways. However, the Edge is still has numerous opportunities available to provide students with learning opportunities within the industry. 

 

Whether someone is seeking an internship, volunteer hours and/or part-time employment the Edge is able to provide all of those and more.  Internships can be paid or unpaid. Part time employment is flexible and we are able to work within the needs of the student. 

 

We are really seeking young adults to volunteer within several of our sports programs, especially soccer. Being a mentor for the participants can and will make a difference in how they perceive sports as a whole. I implore you to consider being a volunteer. One opportunity is working with the federal government Administration for Community Living which seeks to improve the lives of older adults and people with disabilities through services, research, and education. This opportunity is working with Dr. Tom Moran, a JMU Kinesiology professor. A flyer for this opportunity is attached. 

Shenandoah Valley Inclusive Wellness Coalition (SVIWC) is looking for an intern to support virtual wellness programming for participants with Disabilities. SVIWC  is an alliance of individuals with disabilities, family members, and professionals who are working to increase opportunities for ALL individuals to participate in community-based physical activity and wellness opportunities. ODU Strength and Conditioning, Norfolk, VA

The Old Dominion University Sports Performance department is now accepting applications for 2 UNPAID interns for the SUMMER 2020 semester. This internship will begin May11th and expect to last till the end of the summer. Depending on performance, these interns may be asked to return for the Fall semester. Those chosen will gain valuable experience working within a Division 1 sports performance department while assisting with the design and implementation for sports such as football,field hockey, and lacrosse. In addition, those chosen will gain experience working with sports science modalities such as ForceDecks and Playertek. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting with the supervision and execution of the sports performance programs, set up and break down for daily training, routine maintenance and cleaning of the training facility, assisting with nutritional station duties, and completion of the internship curriculum. Required qualifications include a strong work ethic, completion or current pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in exercise science or a related course of study, and a strong desire to become a sports performance professional. In addition, one should be pursuing or have CSCS or a relevant certification (NSCA, CSCS; CSCCa, SCCC; NASP, PES; USAW). Burn Boot Camp - Fredericksburg/Stafford, VA

I own a gym called Burn Boot Camp in Fredericksburg, Va.  We currently have one location.  We are in the process of opening gym number 2 also in Fredericksburg and by the end of the year we will have a 3rd gym opening in Stafford.  We are always looking for certified trainers with degrees in Kinesiology, exercise science, and similar degrees.  We currently need 1 full time trainer and 2-4 part time trainers.  We would love to have some JMU alumni working at our gyms.

ABOUT LAB SPORTS PERFORMANCE
LAB Sports Performance is the premier athletic development facility in SW Virginia. Designed by athletes, we believe that everyone has an inner athlete.  By providing total body/functional movement training, this athlete can be brought out in anyone. Whether your goal is increasing strength and speed, preventing or rehabilitating injury, losing weight, or simply boosting confidence, LAB SP will meet your goals.

Position Overview
            The Performance Floor Staff will successfully assist the Lab Sports Performance Coaching Staff in delivering the highest quality training to all facility clients. Using their exceptional interpersonal the Performance Floor Staff will communicate with both the Coaching Staff as well as the facility clients to ensure that the highest quality experience is achieved. The Performance Floor staff will use critical thinking and forward planning to help create and maintain a safe and efficient flow for the clients and coaching staff.

General Responsibilities
·         Maintain safe and efficient flow of training sessions
·         Assist Coaching Staff with delivery and execution of training programs
·         Ensure training space is organized and clean for all training sessions

Expectations of all Applicants
·         Be competent teaching dynamic warm-up & flexibility drills
·         Demonstrate a knowledge of training techniques
·         Be eager to learn and accepting of constructive criticism
·         Must be comfortable interacting with clients, parents, etc.
·         Present yourself in a manner that will reinforce your status as a role model for impressionable young athletes

Qualifications
·         Education:  Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a related field (Health, Human Performance, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, Exercise Science, etc.)
·         Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
·         Must have a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
·         Strong desire for continued growth and learning

Internship Schedule
Lab Sports Performance internships are scheduled according to traditional academic semesters and summer vacation. Interns are asked to work a minimum of 15 hours per week throughout the duration of their program.

·         June 1 – Aug. 22 (4 Positions) App. Deadline: 4/1

·         Semester 1 2020: 
·         Session A:  Sept. 1 – Oct. 24 (3 Positions) App. Deadline: 7/1
