Practicum opportunity at Physical Therapy office
We run a supervised hour long group exercise class three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 12:45pm to 1:45pm (closer to 2:00pm). The class is primarily for those with Parkinson’s Disease and may also include other people with neurodegenerative diseases or balance deficits. We are looking to have some extra hands available, potentially an additional 1-3 people, to assist for safety and to give added cues, supervision, etc.

DFC Fitness Internship Overview
The Fitness Internship at the Duke University
Diet & Fitness Center (DFC) provides undergraduate/graduate students with a
well-rounded educational and practical experience. The
DFC is affiliated with Duke Medical Center, the southeast’s leading medical
center, and is one
of the world’s only multi-disciplinary lifestyle enhancement/residential
obesity treatment programs. The DFC program includes Fitness, Nutrition, Behavioral
Health/Lifestyle Coaching and Medical components. Fitness interns will focus on
the fitness component but have the unique opportunity to observe other
components as well. Students will also have the opportunity to observe at our community
based fitness facility, the Duke Health & Fitness Center (DHFC) and many
different surgical observation opportunities.

This would be a great site for students who are interested in ANY aspect of health education and exercise to learn. Past student interests have ranged from those interested in being personal trainers, to those who want to go forward in exercise physiology, as well as many in physical therapy, nutrition/dieticians, Nurse Practioners, Physician Assistants, and many, many who have gone forward into the medical profession.
