Program Description
Want on-the-job international preparation for our globalized world? Not sure where to complete your kinesiology or exercise science internship? This is the program for you. In this exciting new JMU program, students will be placed in an internship in kinesiology/exercise science. Most placements will be with a local Australian Rules football team in which students will experience first-hand the sports medicine culture by engaging in numerous activities, including providing assistance in the performance and conditioning activities within the club by conducting various fitness assessments and interpreting results; and developing exercise prescriptions for injured athletes. Get an insiders look at a home-grown Aussie sport that dominates the country.
The internships take place in Perth, along Australia's west coast, known for its wonderful weather, beautiful beaches and laidback feel. Perth is a cosmopolitan city home to a multitude of cafes, restaurants, and cultural activities. JMU partner, The Education Abroad Network (TEAN), provides customized internship placements for JMU students.
Upon arrival students participate in a short orientation that includes an introduction to Australian culture and work environment, an overview of the city and surrounding areas, and preparation for the internship. After orientation, students will be placed in a full time internship for a total of 8 weeks (160+ hours).
Don't waste your summer, take advantage of this opportunity to get international work experience while earning academic credits!
