Exercise Physiologist - Duke University

Seeking applications for a master’s level exercise physiologist in the laboratory of William E. Kraus, MD, (current President-elect of ACSM) to work on numerous studies but predominantly on Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (see web site for additional details  www.motrpac.org ).

MoTrPAC is a nationwide, NIH funded $175 million study in which Duke is one of 10 adult training centers.  This study will involve taking muscle and adipose biopsies and blood samples before and then again after an acute bout of aerobic or resistance exercise; followed by 12 weeks of training with a final acute bout of exercise with additional muscle, adipose and blood sampling before and after the acute bout.   These samples will then be sent to several different centers for multiple “omics” analyses.    There are several additional aspects of this study and more details can be found at the website including the 100+ page adult training protocol.

In addition to MoTrPAC we also have VA funded and NIH funded drug infusion studies (with the goal of better understanding the pancreatic alpha and beta cell functions:  PI Dave D’Alessio) plus three different drug studies.  So a lot is going on and this is a great place for a person to learn a lot more physiology and of course multiple ‘omics (metabolomics, proteomics, genomics, epigenetics, transcriptomics and much more).  We have a great team and are looking to add one more excellent person.

Please forward this announcement to the appropriate person in your department (if you are not that person) and also to any additional colleagues that you think might be interested in this position.   Also feel free to email me back with the correct contact person(s).

Students who have already graduated with a master’s degree or who will complete the degree this semester are eligible.
