Wellness Coordinator
Description
The primary responsibilities of the Wellness Coordinator are to assist the Wellness Director in creating and implementing senior specific wellness programming for the wellness center as well as be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a variety of land and aquatic exercise classes and in prescribing individual exercise programs for older adults.
Qualifications
· Education/experience equivalent to BS in health-related science (emphasis in wellness/fitness preferred).
· Knowledge of proper exercise prescription according to industry standards as set forth by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Arthritis Foundation and Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA).
· CPR and First Aid certified or ability to obtain.
· Current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross or YMCA) or ability to obtain.
· Experience instructing group/individual land and aquatic exercise preferred.
· Ability to develop and implement senior specific wellness programming both independently and collaboratively.
· Supervisory skills required; experience preferred.
· Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach when engaging all individuals.
Requirements
· Report to work as scheduled by Wellness Director. - Promptly notifies Wellness Director of desired time off by completing written leave request form. Is punctual and appropriately observes meal periods.
· Assist Wellness Director in providing quality wellness related programming. - Willingly accept assignments delegated by Wellness Director. Suggest appropriate and imaginative programming ideas to Wellness Director. Assist in supervising and training Sunnyside Wellness Instructors. Independently develop and implement special wellness related events that have been pre-approved by Wellness Director.
· Develop and create written educational and informational materials as necessary. - Create written education/information materials such as bulletin boards, fliers, Funside articles and pamphlets. Produce educational and informative materials that are neat, professional and clearly articulated.
· Prescribe appropriate exercise programs based on individual health status, industry standards and ACSM guidelines. - Appropriately advise residents about exercise recommendations and restrictions. Demonstrate proper form.
· Strive to sustain and increase resident participation. - Contact new residents and ensure that an individual health history form/medical certificate and physician consent form is completed for each resident that wishes to utilize the Sunnyside Wellness Center. Assist Wellness Director in creating and promoting exercise motivational challenges. Assist Wellness Director in planning and implementing promotional events such as yearly Sunnyside Wellness Center open house.
· Teach high quality group exercise classes. - Instruct land and aquatic based exercise sessions in a safe and effective manner by following ACSM guidelines. Perform and demonstrate all exercises using proper form and clear verbal instruction. Consistently score well on instruction evaluation which is completed by Wellness Director as needed. Instruct group exercise classes that are varied, creative and enjoyable.
· Maintain current pool records. - Record all necessary pool related information (i.e. water temperature, pH, CI in pool area) appropriately. Notifies Wellness Director of low supply of pool/spa chemicals, cleaning products and locker room supplies. Complete weekly pool/spa cleaning and maintenance checklists.
· Maintain safe operation of pool/spa. - Constantly observe all residents who are using the pool/spa and follows industry standards for lifeguarding. Help properly maintain the “pump room” equipment and chemicals. Enforce Sunnyside Wellness Center pool/spa rules as stated in the Sunnyside Policy and Procedure Manual. Monitor the use and cleanliness of the locker rooms. Deliver towels to laundry department. Lock pool door at pool closing.
· Monitor and maintain work environment including fitness equipment. - Complete weekly cleaning and maintenance checklists. Ensure that all Wellness Center equipment is in proper working order. Alert Wellness Director and/or maintenance of necessary repairs.
· Assist residents with use of Wellness Center. - Perform one-on-one training sessions when required. Orient new residents to the Wellness Center. Communicate with physical therapy/occupational therapy staff and physicians to ensure knowledge of exercise recommendations and restrictions.
