Suffolk, VA, Parks and Recreation

Greetings from Suffolk Parks & Recreation!

We wanted to reach out to you with some updates for the Spring 2024 and also extend some opportunities for the students there at James Madison University.

360 Internship Experience:  We currently have internships available for the Summer semester.  Our internships placements are customized experiences for the students based in their interest and career goals.  We balance that with the needs of the department to build a fully customized experience that will give the intern a well-rounded experience and exposure to multiple divisions.  We generally identify a base placement or primary area of focus (i.e. athletics, fitness, etc.) and then build out a rotation that allows the intern to see some additional area’s within the field.  We like our interns to understand the CAPRA Accreditation process, have exposure to Capital Improvement meetings and build skill sets and a knowledge base that will prepare them for a future in the field.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Special Events:  March 23, 2024 – Eggstravaganza at Bennett’s Creek Park

Volunteers are needed to assist with setup and breakdown of the event.  Volunteers will also be needed to assist with collection of survey data, arts and crafts, egg hunts etc.

Upcoming Job Opportunities:  Summer job posting will be added to the City of Suffolk homepage and can be found at www.suffolkva.us.  We do anticipate summer job postings to become available between the end of February and early March.

Please feel free to share this information with any students who may be interested.  For additional information, interested applicants can contact Jason Pittman, CPRP at jpittman@suffolkva.us or reach me by phone at 757-514-7268.

We are always happy to visit campus and speak to the students on a variety of topics if we can ever be of assistance.  Always feel free to reach out!

Sincerely,

Cardio/pulmonary rehab - NoVA

KIN alumna Brianna Rios is eager to get internship students/recent graduates into a cardiac rehab position. Here is her message:

I hope you are well! Within the next 6 months we will have a few Exercise Physiologist positions open at our Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab locations, especially at Inova Loudoun and Fairfax. I am working with my manager on potentially attending the upcoming career fair at JMU however as this is a very niche field, I figure I would contact you directly! I wanted to ask if there are any opportunities during class time to speak to the Kin students on what we do and open positions for May grads and even internships. I'm also happy to chat on the phone if that's easier. Please let me know! Thanks.
