Fall semester opportunity - KIN

Dr. Trent Hargens has a need for student research assistants in the fall. From his blog:

Attention Kinesiology students!

If you are interested in a practicum or internship experience for the Fall of 2018, read on!

This experience will involve assisting with data collection for the American College of Sports Medicine in developing national normative data on cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular endurance.

ACSM is developing their own submaximal cycle ergometer test (where formerly they used the YMCA Bike Protocol).  Due to licensing issues, the YMCA is no longer allowing ACSM use of their protocol.   A new cycle protocol has been developed, but ACSM needs help to establish norms to be used as an interpretation tool.

Our department was approached by ACSM about assisting with this project.  We are in need of students who are interested in helping us collect data on 50 - 100 subjects before January 2019.  Work has already begun on this project during the spring semester of 2018, and we will be continuing this fall.  This will require students to become proficient in performing this new submaximal cycle ergometer test that will soon by launched by ACSM.

If interested, please email me.  CPR certification with AED is required.  Previous completion of KIN 321 is a plus, but not required.  If interested, please contact me by April 15, 2018.  A brief resume can also be emailed, as well as your desire for practicum or internship credits.

Don't pass up the opportunity to gain valuable experience in human subject research, while satisfying your practicum or internship requirements!

Dr. Hargens from Kinesiology will be overseeing this project. Email him at hargenta@jmu.edu.
