Virginia Tech is pleased to announce we are currently accepting applications for the position of Graduate Assistant for Fitness. This position is a full-time 2-year, (4-semester plus summers) commitment as a graduate student working ~25 hours/week (some nights and weekends) with the Department of Recreational Sports Fitness Program. The incumbent will serve as an assistant to the Fitness Coordinator and the Assistant Director of Fitness and Assessment with the development and supervision of a comprehensive Fitness/Wellness Program including Group Exercise, Personal Training, Wellness, Fitness Assessment, and Special Events.

Program Overview
The fitness program is responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating all group exercise programs, special events, wellness, personal training, and fitness assessment activities for all Virginia Tech patrons. The graduate assistant will manage ~35 student personal trainers, ~50 student group exercise instructors, 3 program supervisors, and ~25 student fitness assistants.

Responsibilities
Work with Fitness Coordinator, Assistant Director of Fitness and Assessment, Recreational Sports
Collaborate with professional staff and student employees/interns to coordinate fitness programs and special
events
Assist with hiring, training, evaluating and supervising numerous part-time student employees, field study
students, student supervisors, and interns
Assist with budget development and management
Assist with the evaluation of fitness programs and events
Develop and edit health related educational materials, website, schedules, training manuals, lectures, and
programs
Conduct training workshops, staff meetings, group exercise classes, etc
Maintain inventory and make recommendations for fitness equipment and supplies
*Responsibilities may vary with the strengths of the PT and GX supervisors

Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Recreation Management, Kinesiology, or related field with acceptance to a Virginia Tech Graduate Program. Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing computer skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Hold and maintain at least 1Group Exercise Instructor/Personal Training national certification

Preferred: 2+ years of experience as a Group Exercise Instructor and/or Personal Trainer working with a wide variety of populations. One or more LesMills certifications: BODYPUMP™, BODYCOMBAT™, BODYSTEP™
Stipend/Salary-
$1,418.00 monthly stipend and full tuition waiver. Student comprehensive fees and any additional fees are the responsibility of the student.
